Mk2 Jetta Build... the sites first build =P
ok so as a few of u know i picked up a jetta last fall that had a little work done to it already with plans of continuing the build.
Motovation for choosing this was its a clean 1990 Jetta GL with only 100k on the clock and is 100% RUST FREE!
Plans are to add some bolt ons, do exhaust, wheels, and redo some of the interior, and just have a fun Summer DD and possibly get a little dirty out on the track from time to time
Heres what i started with:
SHELL - ~100k on it
-1990 Alpine white Jetta GL
-fresh alpine white paint on bay, bumpers, trunklid and below the belt line
-Lowered on Raceland Springs with Oem Struts
-New Exhaust
-Rear Disc Swap
-Wolfsburg Edition front fenders
-French yellow Fogs
-New Heater core
-Oem interior with Mk4 shift boot
-Euro front plate mount
-Silver Steelies with New Fuzion all seasons
-Sony stereo
-Yakima Roof Rack + Fairing
-A/C Delete
MOTOR + TRANS ~120k on it
-2.0 Aba motor swap (from 1995 golf that was getting a vr6 swap)
-Lightweight Lifters
-268 tt cam
-ECU chipped For 268 style cam
-ACH Long Gear Trans (only used on Diesel Applications 1985-1987)
-Larger Radiator Swap from the same 1985 Diesel
-Dual Fan Swap (Passat)

Re: Mk2 Jetta Build... the sites first build =P
Unfortunatly these Mk2's have a rod transmission that is notorious for sloppy gears, so i ordered the "smart shift 2" kit from Usually Sideways Rally Team (USRT) to Make new stronger linkage and tighten up some of the play, overall there is still a little play in the shifter, but finding a gear is much more accurate and im 100% happy with how it turned out.
Heres a vid of shifter play before the kit, trans was engaged in second gear during this
Wont let me upload the vid till 7 days of membership... so that will come soon
the old shift linkage
the new stuff
and a couple pics from doing the fab
Grinding off the old linkage ball joints to add stronger steel heim joints
and the anoying lever that took forever to tune to get all 6 gears to grab
While i was at it i also installed a Sickspeed Anodized aluminum weighted shift knob
here was the old Mk4 Pos that was in it before

I love the silverstars, they certainly are no hid's but for the price they have a great clean white glow to them, I get people shining their brights on occasion, always fun to flash em right backbumpin98intrigue wrote:how are them siverstars? i bought the ZXEs from advance autoparts by the sylvania also and i get flashed for my dims and had a guy stomp on his breaks in front of me yesterday, he pulled over and pulled up behind me with his brights on i returned the favor ( also pulling over) and got up behind him and showed him just how bright my brights are lol. he pulled over and stayed there until i was almost a mile away lol

The exhaust im planning on redoing soon, id have to remeasure as i cant remember if it is 2" or 2and a quarterBryton. wrote:Okay i am curious of two things, what size exhaust, and whats different about the Wolfsburg Edition front fenders vs the stocks.
As for the fenders, to my knowledge the only difference is a wolf logo on the fender trim, kind of a pointless adition, not sure why exactly they were changed by the po
