Need a Block Bored...

Post by HondaGod on Mon Apr 23, 2012 10:58 pm

I am currently beginning abuild after collecting most of my parts, and I need to have a z6 block bored .20 over. The only place I know of is Thirlbys locally and I don't want to bring it there. I didn't know if any of you guys had a hookup on something like that. Let me know, thanks.

I wouldn't trust Thirlbys if my life depended on it. There aren't much machining shops up here that are reputable, unless you want to spend money up the hoozah to get it done.

My best bet would be to look somewhere downstate for a shop.

Damn, I already found a decent place down bt GR, but I was hoping I could get it done local by a non-thirlby location. Well, until then my build is on hold. But when I start making progress Ill be sure to start a thread.

I agree with Evan, My buddy steve took his GVR-4 motor to Thirlby and when he got it back the cylinders were egg shaped. Although they made up for their mistake, they gave him a 100 gasket kit. Too bad it only cost him hundreds o have the block fixed and buy new pistons and rings.... Mad

Geez. And they get out of covering it because they don't put it together but they also don't warranty anything the customer puts together.

My dad had a bad experience with them long ago, and it was such a stupid mistake I don't trust them either. And the one that made the mistake still works there. I believe it was the owners son, and he scored a bearing and instead of saying something or replacing the bearing he put it together anyway and it spun a bearing in 8 miles and they wouldn't cover it.

I honestly just never trust anyone that deals with cars anymore in Traverse City. Nothing but a bunch of wannabe rednecks.

Hey devin, its jake. Go to GT cylinder block and head on keystone. They have a great reputation and do good work. I have used them in the past.

Yeah, GT Cylinder did the machine work on my b18. They've always done a good job for me. Too bad that they closed.
